About Acting V: Advanced Scene Study

In this online and interactive class, as part of an in-depth exploration of scenes from published plays, we will explore using your truth and the clues in the script to give you a deeper understanding of the art of acting. In virtual Acting V, scenes are selected by the instructor. Come and see for yourself why we have some students who are going on their 5th year in Acting V- Scene Study!

Kate Peckham

Director of Education

Kate Peckham has been a professional theatre artist for almost 30 years. She is a teacher, coach and director as well as an award-winning actor who has appeared in over 100 stage productions in Detroit, Los Angeles and San Antonio as well as films and commercials. She has been an acting teacher and coach since 2000. She began teaching with Anthony Meindl's Actors' Lab in Los Angeles. As the Director of Acting Programs and Co-Artistic Director at Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit (2003-2010) her directing credits include "Now That I Can Dance: Motown 1962" and the world premiere of "Sing Jubilee: The Story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers" by OyamO. Many of Kate's former Mosaic acting company members were accepted to prestigious drama programs such as SUNY- Purchase, Carnegie- Mellon, DePaul, NYU, University of Minnesota, Howard University as well as all of the major universities in Michigan. At the Michigan Actors Studio, Kate teaches all levels of acting from Acting 1 for beginners through Acting V- on-going scene study. And many of her MAS students have gone on to success in the film, television and theatre industries here in Detroit as well as in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. She has former students on Broadway, on television, and starring in and producing their own films. Kate works as an acting coach with private students and continues to direct. She most recently directed "A Doll's House Part 2" at Tipping Point Theatre in Northville. Favorite credits from her career include directing “Waking the Witch (Planet Ant), “Beyond Therapy” (Detroit Ensemble Theatre) and “The Empire Builders” at her alma mater, The Theatre Co. at the University of Detroit-Mercy. "Proof", alongside her husband,(Tipping Point), "And the Creek Don't Rise" (Williamston Theatre), Jeannie in “Hair” at the Strand Theatre in Pontiac and “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” at the Actors Rep in San Antonio (For which she won a Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress) are some of her favorite acting roles. Kate is also proud to be a 2009 Community Arts Leadership Academy (CALA) Fellow sponsored by ArtServe Michigan. She was one of twenty community leaders from across the state who were selected based on their experience and ongoing dedication to community arts programs in their respective regions. Kate is thrilled about her new opportunity to head up the certificate program as MAS’ Director of Education.
